We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent CAD Technician to join our vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK. This role will be based on-site at our Traffic Management depot in Sheffield (S20 3RW).

What will the role offer?

Working at Amey puts you at the centre of an inspiring expert team. The CAD Technician supports the successful delivery of temporary traffic management schemes by producing accurate, compliant and high-quality CAD drawings for National Highways and Local Authority contracts. The CAD Technician will work closely with Traffic Management Designers, Planners, Supervisors and Operational Teams to develop and maintain temporary traffic management layouts, diversion routes and associated project documentation in accordance with current legislation, industry standards and client requirements.

The role is critical in ensuring that all traffic management drawings are produced safely, efficiently and within agreed timescales to support project delivery across Amey Traffic Management contracts.

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

What you will be doing:

  • Produce temporary traffic management (TM) drawings for National Highways, Local Authority and other client contracts using approved CAD software.
  • Develop traffic management layouts in accordance with the Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 8 requirements, Sector Scheme standards and client specifications.
  • Prepare drawings for lane closures, road closures, contraflows, diversions, temporary traffic signals, speed restrictions and other traffic management schemes.
  • Review client information, site data and project requirements to ensure drawings are accurate, practical and compliant.
  • Amend and update drawings in response to design reviews, operational requirements and client feedback.
  • Maintain drawing registers and ensure all revisions are correctly controlled and distributed.
  • Liaise with Operational Teams, Design Engineers, Supervisors and Project Managers to support the planning and delivery of traffic management works.
  • Ensure all drawings are produced within agreed program timescales and meet required quality standards.
  • Identify and escalate any design, safety or constructability concerns during the drawing development process.
  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure information is stored in accordance with company procedures.

What you’ll bring:

  • Previous experience producing technical drawings within traffic management, highways, civil engineering or construction environment.
  • On-road experience working in traffic management is desirable.
  • Knowledge of temporary traffic management principles and industry standards.
  • Sector Scheme 12D M7 qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • IHE Professional Certificate or Diploma (or willingness to obtain)
  • Proficient in Cone 11, AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, highway plans and site information.
  • Understanding of traffic management design requirements, including Chapter 8 and Traffic Signs Manual guidance.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate technical drawings to tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to support operational requirements across a range of contracts and projects.
  • Full UK driving licence is desirable.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and professional development as required
