Job Purpose: Delivery of G4 support to 1 Highlanders Army Cadet Force (ACF)
General Description of Role:
The Cadet Stores Assistant (CSA) is a Crown Servant and a full-time civilian employee of the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Highland RFCA. The CSA is responsible to the Cadet Executive Officer (CEO) for all administrative, logistical and security matters within their Area of Responsibility (AOR), through the Cadet Quartermaster (CQM). In the absence of the CQM, the CSA may be required to deputise. Therefore they are to have a working knowledge of the CQM’s main responsibilities.
The CSA is on an All Hours Worked (AHW) Contract that recognises the requirement for additional hours to be worked in the evenings and at weekends and is based on an average working week of 42 hours, catering for unsocial hours and hours worked in excess of standard hours. AHW staff do not receive overtime. When supporting cadet activity a CSA can attend as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV) claiming the appropriate level of Volunteer Allowance (VA) for each day attending, only after their All Hours Worked (AHW) total has been exhausted.
The CSA is to attend suitable courses to work safely, achieve competency, currency or to meet job objectives.
Description of Primary Tasks:
- Administer the demand and procurement of stores and associated items, receipt, check and take on to account in support of ACF activity, using the Westminster G4 stores accounting package.
- Manage stocks and maintain correct stock procedures in line with the Main Equipment List (MEL) and as per the Defence Logistic Framework (DLF).
- Administer disposal, writes off, discrepancy, issues and receipt of stores and associated items.
- Prepare uniforms for issue, condition returned stores for cleanliness, repair and general serviceability.
- Prepare and maintain stores for issue at weekend training.
- Support the Quartermaster in the management and accountancy of the Battalion ammunition account, and if required arms, using UAMS and JAMES as necessary.
- Provide support to the Quartermaster for mandatory inspections – LEA, LSA&I, MEA etc
- Administration of management and accountancy for Field rations.
- Dispose of packaging in line with waste management policy.
- Notifying the Quartermaster of any irregularities as they occur.
- Perform working routines that are compatible with safe working practices in accordance with Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (RFCA) Safety Health Environment (SHE) Policy Statement and ensuring that all SHEF matters are followed as per the unit policy.
- Attendance at annual camp as part of the PSS support and logistical team.

Description of Secondary Tasks:
- Undertake any reasonable task(s) within the broad remit of their role, which may be required of them by either the CEO or CQM, which may entail such aspects as ad hoc analysis and one-off reports.
- Deputise for the Cadet Quartermaster as required.
- Carry out deliveries and collections to/from outside agencies eg: workshops, tailors.
- Support the CAAs as necessary.
- Assist the CFAVs in the administration and maintenance of any vehicle allocated for ACF use.
- Attendance at Equipment Care meetings as required.
- Complete monthly G4 returns to CQM.
- Conduct unit portable Electrical Equipment Inspection and Testing (EEIT).
- Maintain records using Cascade of All Hours Worked (AHW) submitting to the CQM weekly.
General Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
Essential:
- Have experience in stores/warehouse and logistical environments.
- Proven organisational ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to work individually or in a small team with limited supervision.
- Be IT literate with particular experience in using Microsoft Office applications.
- Hold a current driving licence.
Desirable:
- Knowledge and experience within the military G4 environment.
- Qualified or experience in SHEF matters.
- Driving licence with D1+E and C1.
Specific Requirements: As a condition of employment the CSA is required to be a member of the ACF in the non-commissioned rank of Sergeant Major Instructor (SMI).

CADET STORES ASSISTANT
The 1st BATTALION THE HIGHLANDERS ACF
Applications are invited for the post of Cadet Stores Assistant with the 1st Battalion The Highlanders ACF. This is a temporary appointment to a Crown Servant Grade E1 post as an employee of the Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association. The vacancy has arisen due to the deployment of a RAF Reservist and has an expected duration of no longer than 7 months. The post will start on 01 Dec 2026 and is expected to last until 30 June 2027, however this may be shorter if operational demands change.
This post supports 34 Detachment locations spread throughout the highlands and islands, working out of the Battalion Headquarters, HRFCA Sub-Office, Gordonville Road, Inverness.
Applicants coming from an Armed Forces background, with RQMS/CQMS experience would be advantageous however, all applicants with suitable experience and transferable skills will be considered. The appointment calls for: a good knowledge of military stores procedures; the ability to communicate effectively and handle routine correspondence diplomatically; learn new systems quickly working with minimum supervision, have a good understanding of numeracy and computer literacy and hold a current clean driving licence, preferably including category D and E.
The starting salary is £32,455, on an All Hours Worked (AHW) basis of 42 hours per week. The salary quoted includes an addition for working unsocial hours and for hours worked in excess of standard hours (37). Annual leave, excluding Public Holidays, is 25 days per year, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service; previous public sector employment may count towards qualifying years’ service.
Prior to appointment, the successful applicant will be required to be Security Checked (SC), and to have membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Disclosure scheme via Disclosure Scotland, Central Registered Body in Scotland (CRBS).
The successful applicant, as a condition of employment, will be required to enrol in to the Army Cadet Force in a non-commissioned capacity and will receive the appropriate Volunteer Allowance (VA) for any activity carried out as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV) and in accordance with current regulations.
