We’re looking for a friendly, reliable and hardworking Café Assistant to join our team at St Margaret’s Café in Yeovil on a full-time, 1 year fixed-term contract.

This is a great opportunity to become part of something brand-new here at St Margaret’s as we embark on a journey growing our catering services with the launch of our new café. The role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in good food service and is always striving to support the smooth day-to-day running of a busy café environment.

About Our New Café

St Margaret’s Café will provide a calm, friendly and welcoming space for patients, families, visitors and staff to enjoy good-quality drinks, snacks, light refreshments and freshly prepared food, all proudly made in-house by our amazing catering team. The café will help support the future of the hospice, while offering a warm welcoming experience that reflects the core values of St Margaret’s.

Role details

  • Location: St Margaret’s Hospice, Yeovil
  • Contract: Full time, 1year fixed term
  • Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am till 4pm

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks, snacks and light refreshments
  • Providing a warm, welcoming and professional service to customers
  • Keeping the café area clean, tidy and well presented throughout the day
  • Supporting basic food preparation and safe food handling procedures
  • Restocking displays, fridges and service areas as required
  • Taking customer orders and handling payments where required
  • Following food hygiene, allergen and health and safety procedures
  • Supporting opening, closing and daily cleaning routines

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous café, catering, hospitality or customer service experience would be an advantage
  • Confident working in a customer facing role
  • Able to work well as part of a team that includes our amazing volunteers
  • Reliable, punctual and flexible in your approach to work
  • Able to follow instructions and maintain good standards of cleanliness and food safety
  • Friendly, approachable and committed to providing excellent service

Barista experience is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided
