The Cafe Chef is a full-time, on-site role based in Buckfastleigh, responsible for preparing and cooking hot and cold food to a consistent standard. Day-to-day duties include:

The role also involves maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, managing stock levels, and coordinating with suppliers as needed. The Cafe Chef will work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service, respond to customer requests and dietary needs, and help maintain a clean, organized kitchen and cafe area. This position requires hands-on involvement during busy periods and a commitment to delivering a positive experience for all guests.
Qualifications
- Strong customer-facing skills, including Customer Service and Communication, to interact with guests and team members professionally.
- Solid Food & Beverage and Food Service skills, with experience in preparing, cooking, and serving cafe-style meals and drinks.
- Basic Sales awareness to support menu promotion, upselling of items, and contribution to overall cafe revenue.
- Knowledge of food hygiene regulations, safe kitchen practices, and allergen awareness, with relevant food safety certification preferred.
- Previous experience as a chef or cook in a cafe, restaurant, or similar environment, including ability to work efficiently during peak times.
- Reliable time management, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team.
- Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including mornings and weekends, in line with cafe operating hours.
