Commis Chef / Demi Chef de Partie – Cafe Kowloon Pay: £13.50–£15.00 per hour, inclusive of tronc, depending on experience Hours: Approximately 35–45 hours per week Location: London Position: Full-time
Cafe Kowloon is looking for a Commis Chef / Demi Chef de Partie to join our kitchen team.
Cafe Kowloon is a modern Hong Kong-inspired restaurant with a menu centred around Cantonese flavours and techniques, live-fire cooking, wok, grill and high-quality produce.
This role would suit a chef early in their career who has good kitchen fundamentals and wants to develop their skills in a busy, professional restaurant environment.
The position and rate of pay will depend on experience.
The Role
As Commis Chef / Demi Chef de Partie, you will:
- Carry out daily mise en place and preparation
- Work alongside the Chef de Partie and senior kitchen team during service
- Cook and plate dishes consistently to the required standard
- Learn and follow recipes, specifications and kitchen procedures
- Develop confidence working across different sections of the kitchen
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness
- Ensure ingredients are correctly stored, labelled and rotated
- Help monitor prep levels, stock and wastage
- Assist with deliveries and general kitchen organisation
- Communicate clearly with the wider kitchen team
- Take responsibility for developing your skills and progressing within the brigade

What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen
- Good basic knife and cooking skills
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- Reliable and punctual
- Able to work well as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Good understanding of basic food hygiene and safe working practices
- An interest in developing your cooking skills and taking on greater responsibility
- Previous experience with Cantonese, Chinese or East Asian cooking is beneficial but not essential. Training will be provided.
- We are equally interested in chefs with strong fundamentals from other styles of cooking who are keen to learn.
