Qualifications
- All qualifications of the Child Nutrition Worker
- Proof of High School Graduation or High School equivalency certificate.
- Passing grade on the Standard Match Exam required by MS Dept. of Education
- Certification of Cafeteria Manager by the MS Dept. of Education
- Prior employment history in the commercial food service industry
- Prior experience successfully supervising and managing employees
- Current and valid, nationally recognized, food handling certificate
- Must be willing to submit to and pass drug screening.
- In accordance with Mississippi Code S37-9-17, all personnel employed by the public-school system shall be required to pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check.
REPORTS TO: Director of Child Nutrition
SUPERVISES: Child Nutrition Workers & Assistant Nutrition Managers where applicable
JOB GOAL: To serve the students, faculty, and guests of the Harrison County School District attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties and responsibilities may be assigned, including but not limited to:
Management:
- Operates program in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements
- Assumes responsibility of inventory; daily additions and removals; monthly physical inventory
- Assumes responsibility of facility keys
- Care and custody of all assigned equipment within the facility
- Maintains production records (Red Book) daily and keeps records onsite
- Attends required meetings and professional development opportunities
- Submit End-of-Month paperwork to Central Office by required deadlines
- Monitor site productivity factors and provide recommendations for improvement

Preparation:
- Conduct a physical inventory of all food and supply items
- Use Food Buying Guide to order food and supply items to meet menu requirements
- Place orders by required dates in accordance with the ordering schedule
- Responsible for receiving, storing, handling, preparing, and serving of purchased and donated food according to established standards
- Submit invoices to Purchasing Clerk by required deadlines
Production:
- Ensure meals are produced following set menus and standardized recipes
- Monitor cooking processes so flavor, appearance, and nutritional value are retained
- Cross-utilize ingredients during cooking process to save time
- Substitute appropriate ingredients during the cooking process to reduce inventory
Service:
- Monitor serving lines and cashier terminals to ensure required regulations are being met
- Promotes customer satisfaction by merchandising meals in an attractive manner
- Involves students, staff, and community in school food service activities
- Utilize leftovers the following operating day per HACCP guidelines for specific products
- Directs, prepares, and serves meals for special functions and community activities
Cleaning & Sanitation:
- Assures that sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the school food service operation meet established standards
Supervision:
- Orients new staff members to faculty, staff, and building administration
- Sets work schedules and assignments based on budgeted labor hours
- Monitor work performance of staff members recommending corrective action when necessary
- Rotates staff members regularly so that all may be able to work individual stations
- Provides staff training based on rotations, site needs, and district requirements
- Evaluates staff according to established procedures

Sanitation & Safety:
- Meets with Health Dept. Official biannually for inspections and corrective action(s)
- Monitors staff for proper attire and grooming
- Reports facility issues and safety hazards to Central Office immediately
- Implements all HCSD Safety Policies and Procedures
- Attends or sends designee to all HCSD Safety Meetings
Finance:
- Maintains required systems of accountability
- Reconciles and deposits all collected funds daily
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Child Nutrition
Equipment: Computer, email, telephone, two-way radio, a variety of industrial food production and service equipment, refrigeration and hot food holding equipment, floor care and cleaning products, carts, mops, brooms, dusters, spray bottles, and brushes.
Travel Requirements: Travel to school district buildings and meetings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Work in standard school building environments.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186-day contract, approximately a 10-month period. Salary and work year are established by the School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of the Child Nutrition Manager will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions in the School Board Policies and Procedures.
