About Us

We are a team of highly driven Airbus professionals with many different skill sets, who strive to ensure the business is benchmark in all its fields and providing top quality service to our customers. The team is made up of advanced drilling unit Setters and highly experienced Tool Maintainers who work alongside several Engineering functions.

Operating across 6 locations at the Broughton site with diverse enablement requirements with complex maintenance expectations. Asset care plans are the backbone of what we do to improve drilling machine performance. This data and analysis is completed through the current CMMS which is TCMI.

With the introduction of SMART tooling with variable speed motors and gear boxes, programming and logic is at the forefront of our focus and we are on a journey to better utilise the technology available to us.

What You Will Be Doing

During the placement you will learn all about what the Calibration department has to offer with a heavy focus on the maintenance world within Airbus and have the opportunity to utilise your skills to work closely with the teams and implement change to solidify our maintenance strategy. The role will put you at the centre of the drilling team supported by dedicated engineers gaining knowledge and understanding of all Airbus variants across the site.

You will work with a variety of different people both inside the team and around the plant and will have the opportunity to support and autonomously run projects across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and People.

Primary focus will be on the modernising of the maintenance department ranging from the workshop to process improvements on spares management, planned preventive maintenance creating as much opportunity to enable growth into new technologies that we are currently maintaining.

The candidate will also be supporting the management team in enabling production.

During this placement, the activities you may undertake will include:

  • Safety related topics like Risk Assessments, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and safety audits in our production environments;
  • Engaging with the Quality team on Process Confirmations, asset care plans, and root cause analysis tools (Practical Problem Solving);
  • Helping with team engagement initiatives and the employee involvement scheme, as well as environment and sustainability projects;
  • You will represent the Calibration business at drumbeat reviews and be a focal point for our customers, which will develop communication, business agility, and problem solving skills.
  • Your ideas and support will also play a valuable part in defining our long term strategy, including the introduction of new technologies. Working with all areas of the business will help develop your presentation, networking, and stakeholder management skills that will be required and will be valuable in future career opportunities.
  • You will also learn about Airbus Operating Systems and Lean principles, which will be at the forefront of all the projects to ensure the best possible outcomes can be achieved.

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

  • Studying towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Beneficial to have Computer Science awareness (developing websites, Google suite);
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Appetite for improvement and bringing innovative ideas to a situation;
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as autonomously;
  • Organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Willingness to get involved, learn, and immerse yourself in the Airbus ways of working;
  • Interest in maintenance and reliability of assets is preferable.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
