THE TEAM & THE ROLE
As a Camera Assistant, you’ll help our Camera Department capture high-quality pictures for Emmerdale. You’ll support filming in our studios, including multi-camera production, and at locations.
You’ll prepare, move, connect, check and look after camera and grip equipment. You’ll work closely with camera operators, grips, directors, production colleagues and other crew members to help filming run safely and smoothly.
We’ll support you to develop your technical knowledge and camera-operating skills, on the job. You may carry out camera-operating work once you’ve completed the appropriate training and demonstrated the required level of competence.
SKILLS YOU’LL NEED (MINIMUM CRITERIA)

- Evidence of following technical instructions or agreed procedures accurately and safely, including completing checks, preparing equipment or recording information.
- Ability to determine what makes a good shot and how camerawork enhances creative storytelling.
- Evidence of working effectively with other people to complete time-sensitive tasks, including communicating progress, raising issues and responding to changing priorities.
- Ability to organise equipment and information carefully, demonstrated through an example of checking, labelling, recording, storing or transporting items accurately.
- A valid manual driving licence and ability to drive production vehicles between the Leeds base and filming locations, where this remains an essential operational requirement. We’ll consider reasonable adjustments and alternative arrangements where appropriate.
- This role entails the qualitative assessment and correction of the colourimetry of video images with the ability to spot colour or quality camera-related issues and the ability to spot and understand colour rendition.
- You will need experience of duties such as: rigging and derigging camera equipment; cable-clearing; charging camera batteries and setting up monitors out on location and assisting with focusing and tracking.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
