Job Description
OVERVIEW
The Camera Operator is a dynamic and multi-skilled professional responsible for supporting News Gathering activities across live and long-form pre-recorded programming. You will work closely with our News and Digital teams to create high-quality visual content for both broadcast and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in news photography, technical expertise with professional camera and lighting equipment, and the ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and a passion for visual storytelling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate cameras for live and pre-recorded content, including setting up lighting, audio equipment, intercom systems, portable live-streaming devices, and other ancillary equipment.
- Liaise with the International Master Control Room / SatOps to establish remote live feeds and intercom connections.
- Edit engaging video content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms using Adobe Premiere, Mimir, and file transfers using Signiant, often delivering fast-turnaround edits from the field and office.
- Proper care, maintenance, and upkeep of all camera equipment and related accessories.
- Take on local and overseas assignments, as needed, including weekends, shift work, and overtime.
- Support gallery production in studio lighting operations, microphone setup, sound mixing, and managing robotic camera systems if required.
- Comfortable in applying basic makeup or powder to guests/talent when necessary.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team, adapting to the requirements of each assignment or operational scenario while maintaining high standards of professionalism, communication, and accountability.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in operating broadcast or professional camcorder for live TV news and outside broadcast, with strong skills in lighting and audio setup.
- Produce multiple versions of content, including B-roll, packages, social cutdowns, and long-form content as required for different platforms.
- Ensure adherence to journalistic and safety standards in all newsgathering activity.
- Demonstrate strong initiative, problem-solving abilities, and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with file transfers and a solid understanding of different file formats and conversions.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and perform well under pressure.
- Proficiency and experience with carnet processes and requirements for international travel.
- Collaborate with reporters, producers, and directors to achieve the visual goals of each production.
- Capture compelling visual content that enhances storytelling.
- Prioritize and manage multiple production assignments simultaneously.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and attention to detail under pressure.
- Physically handle and transport heavy production equipment as needed.
- Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Possess good written and spoken English.
- Experience of operating in and/or training in hostile environments is a benefit.
- Travel to cover major international news events, often on short notice.
- Work closely with directors, reporters, and producers to ensure smooth execution of live shots, packages, and special reports.
- Able to work flexible or irregular hours, including weekends.
- Valid passport and driver’s license required.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
- While not essential for this role, candidates with experience or proficiency in the following attributes tend to excel in this position:
- Five or more years of experience working for a leading business news organization.
- Familiar with filming using DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
- Proficient in basic non-linear video editing.
- Familiar with mobile live-streaming equipment such as LiveU or similar devices.
- Good eye for composition, framing, and visual detail.
- Flexible schedule with availability for early mornings, nights, weekends, and travel.
