About the role
Badger & Combes is looking for a talented Camera Operator / Shooter-Editor to join our production team at MediaCity in Salford.
We specialise in live broadcasting and digital production, with much of our work taking place in live sport, alongside projects spanning arts, culture, entertainment, branded content, and digital media.
We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable putting a camera on their shoulder at a live event, shooting an interview or feature, and sitting down afterwards to turn great pictures into great content.
This is not a job where you'll spend every day doing the same thing.
We're looking for a genuinely multi-skilled production person who enjoys the variety and pace of modern live and digital production.
The work
Depending on the production, you could be:
- Operating a broadcast camera on a live sports production
- Shooting handheld, tripod, or ENG-style coverage
- Shooting interviews and feature content
- Working as part of a multi-camera live production
- Editing highlights and digital content
- Producing social-first video
- Rigging and preparing cameras
- Working with directors, producers, vision engineers, and production teams
- Helping junior members of the team develop their skills
- Preparing and testing equipment before productions
- Working with audio, lighting, and basic broadcast infrastructure
- Contributing ideas about how a production should look and feel
- Travelling to venues around the UK

What we're looking for
You should be comfortable operating cameras professionally and be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of:
- Composition and visual storytelling
- Exposure, colour temperature, and camera setup
- Lenses and focal lengths
- Tripod and handheld camera operation
- Following action during live events
- Working to direction in a multi-camera environment
- Shooting interviews and actuality
- Recording good-quality audio
- Editing efficiently
- Managing media and production files
Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro would be particularly useful. Experience with Sony, Canon, or similar professional camera systems and conventional broadcast workflows would also be an advantage.
Live sport experience
Experience in live sport would be fantastic, but it isn't an absolute requirement. Someone coming from television, factual production, events, music, theatre, digital content, or another fast-moving production environment could be equally interesting to us.
What matters is that you can anticipate action, produce strong pictures, and remain calm when you're working live.

Working pattern
Because much of our work is live, this isn't a conventional Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 production role.
Sport, events, and cultural productions can take place during evenings and weekends, and the position will involve travel to locations and venues.
Flexibility is therefore important.
