Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our well-established COAST (Crisis Outreach Acute Support Team) service.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide senior clinical leadership within a specialist CAMHS crisis service that sits at the interface between inpatient and community care. Working with young people experiencing acute mental health difficulties, you'll play a key role in delivering intensive home treatment, reducing avoidable admissions and improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.
Recruitment & Retention Package
We are offering an enhanced Recruitment & Retention Premium of up to £45,000 over three years (pro rata for part-time appointments):
- £15,000 on appointment
- £10,000 after 12 months
- £10,000 after 24 months
- £10,000 after 36 months
The opportunity
Based at Chalkhill Hospital in Haywards Heath, you'll join a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, systemic therapy, social work and creative therapies.

The service supports an active caseload of around 12 to 20 young people at any one time and works closely with inpatient units, community CAMHS teams and the Southern Counties Provider Collaborative to provide responsive, high-quality crisis care.
This is a role where your clinical expertise, leadership and ideas can directly influence service development, strengthen care pathways and shape the future delivery of CAMHS crisis services across Sussex.
What you'll be doing
- Providing senior psychiatric leadership within the COAST service
- Delivering specialist assessments, formulation and treatment planning for young people in crisis
- Supporting intensive home treatment as an alternative to inpatient admission
- Acting as Responsible Clinician where required
- Providing consultation and expert advice to multidisciplinary colleagues
- Supervising and supporting junior medical staff
- Participating in the CAMHS Consultant on-call rota (currently 1:9)
- Leading and contributing to service improvement, quality improvement and clinical governance initiatives
About you
We're looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry who is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
You will hold MRCPsych (or equivalent), be included on, or within six months of joining, the GMC Specialist Register and be eligible for Approved Clinician and Section 12 approval requirements. Most importantly, you'll be committed to collaborative working, clinical leadership and improving outcomes for children and young people experiencing mental health crises.
