About the Role

Managing the delivery of our sustainability communications and reporting, producing high-quality, strategic disclosures that build stakeholder trust and strengthen our brand. Partnering with ESG Finance and cross-functional teams, creating compelling, multi-channel communications that showcase our leadership on sustainability.

Acting as a trusted advisor to the business, combining strategic insight with hands-on delivery. This role includes shaping corporate positions across key sustainability topics, advising senior stakeholders, and ensuring our reporting reflects best practice and our commitment to serving customers, communities and the planet a little better every day.

Leading communications for our narrative and content for core sustainability materials -including the Sustainability Report, Annual Report, committee papers and PLC website- while driving integrated campaigns that bring our agenda to life and support delivery of our sustainability commitments.

You will be responsible for

  • Plan and deliver integrated, multi-channel sustainability campaigns aligned to strategic priorities. Including creating clear, compelling content that brings sustainability initiatives to life for a range of audiences.
  • Lead development and delivery of the annual Sustainability Report, acting as the main contact for external agencies. Also manage sustainability content within the Annual Report and broader year-end disclosures.
  • Partner with ESG Finance and key subject matter experts across the business to deliver ESG reporting, tracking progress against commitments and KPIs, and coordinate participation in benchmarks and indices.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory and voluntary reporting developments, ensuring disclosures reflect best practice.
  • Map stakeholder priorities to strengthen messaging and engagement. Manage relationships with key external sustainability bodies and stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic sustainability communications advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Co-ordinate presence at key events (e.g. Sustainable Foods Conference, London Climate Action Week, COP) including shaping content and briefing documents.
  • Research, write and secure approvals for sustainability content across multiple formats and audiences. Including the development of Tesco PLC sustainability web content, ensuring it is accurate, current and aligned with corporate messaging. As well as wider communications message and campaigns across a range of internal and external channels, including social and video.
  • Work with digital teams and external agencies to align messaging and enhance user experience, using analytics to drive continuous improvement. Ensure published external sustainability policies are clear and consistently maintained.
  • Develop presentations, briefings and business cases for a range of internal and external audiences.

You will need

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships quickly with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret, challenge and translate technical reports and materials into compelling sustainability narratives.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering sustainability, ESG and stakeholder communications across a broad range of issues.
  • Strong understanding of ESG principles, industry trends and sustainability issues, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a commercial business context.
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively across functions while also demonstrating initiative and confidence in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking skills, with a track record of managing multiple priorities and delivering work to a high standard.
  • Experienced project manager, successfully delivering both small and large-scale projects.
  • Proven stakeholder management experience, influencing and engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Broad knowledge of ESG indices, benchmarks and reporting frameworks is advantageous.
