Salary: £22,610.92 - £23,963.16 (FTE £25,299 - £26,812) per annum
Job Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week, 39 weeks TTO
We are seeking a vigilant and proactive term-time only Campus Support Officer to ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of students, staff, visitors, and property across the college campus. The Campus Support Officer plays a vital frontline role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment that is conducive to teaching and learning, while upholding college policies, safeguarding principles, and emergency procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring entry and exit points, checking ID badges, ensuring only authorised individuals enter the college.
- Regularly patrolling corridors during non-peak times to identify and address potential security issues.
- Maintaining clear communication with students, staff, and visitors, as well as reporting incidents to management or the authorities.
- Building positive relationships with students to foster a safe and supportive environment.
- Promoting a positive and respectful college culture.
- Responding to incidents such as, fire alarm activations, intruder alarm activations, first aid incidents or lockdown situations, working with college staff and emergency services.
- Ensuring adherence to college policies, which may involve conflict resolution, de-escalation, and reporting incidents.
- Support the enforcement of college behaviour policies, including smoking, loitering, or anti-social conduct.
- Conducting searches of individuals when appropriate, following college procedures.
- Assist with the supervision of student behaviour in communal areas during peak times, such as lunch breaks.
- Act as a keyholder to assist with the opening of college buildings, including unlocking doors and un-setting alarms.
- Support evacuation procedures and act as a Fire Marshal during emergencies, if required.
- To actively support and implement the ‘One College, One Mindset’ initiative.
- To support any key cross college activities such as enrolment, open evenings and recruitment events.
- To follow departmental policies and procedures and operate within service standards at all times.
- To adhere to organisational policies and procedures such as GDPR, Equality and Financial Regulations
- To carry out such other relevant and appropriate duties within the framework of a post of this grade that may from time to time be required at a location determined by the needs of the service.
- To make full use of new technology in all aspects of job requirements
- To participate fully in: professional development, in-service training opportunities which are made available, the college appraisal scheme

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria
- Experience of working in a security role
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Flexible attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable using IT systems for reporting and monitoring
- Organised and observant
- Confident in handling incidents and using de-escalation techniques
- A proactive and vigilant approach to safety and security
- Experience of working in a customer-oriented environment
- Good inter-personal skills with the ability to answer enquiries and deal with all customers in a friendly and efficient manner
- Ability to show an understanding of, and commitment to college policies and procedures. Particularly equality and diversity
- Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves
- Positive personality – self motivated
- Willingness to assist and interact with internal and external stakeholders
- Clear personal commitment of meeting and surpassing customer expectations
- Be committed to their own personal development
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working in an education environment
- Understanding and an awareness of an educational environment
- First aid and/or Fire Marshall training certificate
