NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

Cancer Services, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC) is the second largest cancer centre in the UK and includes a dedicated Clinical Trials and Research Facility. The pharmacy team is also responsible for the National Bone Marrow Transplant and ATMP/CAR-T service.

This post forms part of the Core Band 7 Clinical Cancer Care Pharmacy Service. Post holders will work across all solid tumour and haematological cancer specialities within inpatient, day case and outpatient settings. There will also be opportunities to gain experience in bone marrow transplant and ATMP/CAR-T services.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Permanent, Full-time - 36 hours

Base location - Beatson Cancer Centre with rotation to BMT QEUH, New Victoria Hospital and possibly other areas where cancer services are delivered within GGC

Shift Pattern - Monday - Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services across solid tumour and haematological cancer specialities.
  • Support patients in inpatient, day case and outpatient settings.
  • Rotate through the BWoSCC dispensing and aseptic services.
  • Contribute to the delivery of bone marrow transplant and ATMP/CAR-T services.
  • Support the safe and effective use of medicines within cancer services.
  • Help develop and improve pharmacy services through advanced clinical practice and innovation.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives, including Non-Medical Prescribing and Advanced Practice roles.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job

  • Registered pharmacist with post-registration clinical pharmacy experience.
  • Knowledge of clinical pharmacy practice and patient-centred pharmaceutical care.
  • Interest in, or experience of, cancer services and specialist oncology/haematology pharmacy practice.
  • Willingness to develop advanced clinical skills, including Non-Medical Prescribing and Advanced Practice competencies.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a specialist cancer care environment.
