Capital Accountant (Upcoming Opportunity)

An upcoming opportunity has arisen for an experienced Capital Accountant to join a large public sector organisation in Hertfordshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant looking to further develop their expertise in capital accounting, fixed assets, lease accounting, and technical financial reporting within a complex and rewarding environment.
You will play a key role in supporting the organisation's capital programme, maintaining the fixed asset register, overseeing lease accounting under IFRS 16, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in line with accounting standards and public sector financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring all asset transactions are recorded accurately and promptly.
- Monitor expenditure against the capital programme and provide detailed financial reporting and analysis.
- Lead on lease accounting under IFRS 16, ensuring compliance and maintaining accurate lease records.
- Produce monthly balance sheet reconciliations relating to capital assets and leases.
- Support the preparation of annual accounts, statutory returns, and technical accounting disclosures.
- Provide financial advice on capital schemes, investment appraisals, and business cases.
- Work closely with operational and finance colleagues to support capital planning and forecasting.

About You
- CCAB qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA).
- Experience within a public sector finance environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of capital accounting, fixed assets, IFRS, and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience of investment appraisals, financial modelling, and business case development.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced Excel and financial systems experience.
