About the opportunity
As a Capital Markets Intern, you will:
- Work directly with our Capital Markets Operations Manager and Head of Capital Markets.
- Experience the day-to-day running of structured finance facilities.
- Assist with analytical and operational projects, working alongside Tech and Commercial stakeholders.
- Gain exposure to the design and execution of structured finance transactions, working with industry-leading investors and development finance institutions (DFIs).
What you need to be successful:
- You have a Bachelors or Masters degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Business Informatics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Ideally, you have already gained experience in the financial services industry (banking, asset management, fintech etc.) or in consulting.
- You are based in (or willing to relocate to) Cape Town, London or Berlin for the internship, depending on the role.
What you will be doing in the role:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Calculating and analysing daily liquidity availability across facilities, ensuring figures are accurate and available to support timely funding and drawdown decisions.
- Preparing supporting files and requests for drawdowns and other funding requests, ensuring documentation is complete and accurate for submission.
- Maintaining note registers across facilities, keeping records of issuances, transfers, and balances up to date and consistent with underlying facility documentation.
- Calculating lender interest and fees and maintaining supporting records, ensuring accruals and payments are correctly tracked over time.
- Administering invoicing and payments, including preparing invoices, tracking payment status, and following up to ensure timely settlement.
- Supporting VAT filing and analysis, including preparing supporting schedules and assisting with review of VAT treatment where relevant.
- Administering facility documentation, including supporting equity injections, redemptions, and issuances, and ensuring documentation is complete and properly filed.
- Supporting annual and ad hoc audits, including preparing requested schedules, gathering supporting documentation, and responding to auditor queries.
- Supporting the preparation of account reconciliations and identifying and helping resolve discrepancies across facility and cash accounts.
- Providing administrative and data support for new launches and facilities, including data gathering, setup tasks, and coordination across teams.
- Supporting automation initiatives and financial projections, helping streamline existing processes and contributing to forward-looking analysis.
- Supporting the preparation of analysis and diligence materials for discussions with lenders and development finance institutions (DFIs), giving direct exposure to how large institutional funding relationships are built and maintained.
- Contributing to financial modelling and scenario analysis that feeds into strategic funding decisions across our lending facilities.
