Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Capital Modelling Actuary in our Capital Modeling team.
The role will support the Sompo Capital Modelling team in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and use of the Sompo Economic Capital Model (ECM), including production and analysis of results, communication with key stakeholders, and fulfilment of internal strategic and regulatory reporting requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting the Regulatory Platform Lead in the production of internal and external reporting requirements and other ECM activity relating to Sompo’s operating entities and its regulators, including the PRA and Lloyd’s of London
- Involvement in the entity-level business planning and reforecasting processes, including the production of capital calculations and associated exhibits, including explanations of movements from both a technical and ‘real-world’ perspective
- Tracking and responding to independent validation feedback, regulatory requests, and developing reporting solutions in response to the evolving regulatory environment
- Compliance with the ECM’s operational control processes and other processes deriving from Internal Model policies (e.g., model change, documentation etc.) and proactively seeking to improve existing controls and processes that currently exist
- Supporting the effective and proactive communication of capital model results and analysis to key stakeholders across the Sompo group, including explanation of movements in capital arising from changes to the underlying risk profile of the firm, or from changes to the model’s methodologies, assumptions, or parameters
- Production of analysis and commentary to support internal risk reporting to Sompo’s committees and boards and the use of ECM output by other stakeholders within Sompo
- Lead the modelling activity for selected risk categories, including timetabling, analysis, and review, and data processing/reconciliation/diagnostics
- Assisting with the development, maintenance, and regular update of the ECM including development of methodologies and model coding, parameter reviews, and exposure analysis to ensure the ongoing appropriateness and robustness of the Sompo ECM
- Where required, coordinate or support model development activity, parameterisation activity, or other update activity in conjunction with other ECM team members and through key partnerships within the wider Sompo group
- Providing advice or mentoring to peers within the ECM team according to need or specialism

What You’ll Bring
- Understanding of key Underwriting Risk (catastrophe and non-catastrophe) and Reserve Risk concepts and modelling techniques
- Understanding of Solvency II, Lloyd’s Minimum Standards, or equivalent regulatory regimes
- Experience of non-life Capital Modelling techniques and analysis (Tyche or Igloo knowledge highly desirable)
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficient in standard software tools (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- High degree of proficiency dealing with quantitative concepts, with a strong analytical and problem-solving approach
- Proactive approach to improving processes and challenging the status quo
- Graduate with a 1st or Upper 2nd (2:1) degree from a top-tier university, in a subject involving a high level of numerical or quantitative content
- Nearly Newly qualified actuary, demonstrating good progress with the actuarial examinations
