Shape the spaces and environments that support patient care
Take ownership of a site-specific portfolio of capital projects across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, leading projects from initial planning through to completion and operational handover.
This is a senior role with responsibility for a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from £5k to more than £50m.
Lead your team to deliver safe, compliant projects on time and within budget, while working closely with clinical and operational leaders to ensure investment in the estate supports the needs of patients, staff and services.

You’ll have ownership of your portfolio, balancing immediate project delivery with the longer-term needs of the estate. From major construction projects and backlog works to clinical building standards and sustainability, your decisions will influence how the Trust develops and improves its sites.
Your expertise will help ensure investment is well planned, commercially sound and delivers safe, compliant spaces that can support healthcare now and into the future.
Lead capital projects from plan to handover
Take responsibility for projects throughout their lifecycle, bringing together the people, budgets, expertise and resources needed to get them delivered.
You’ll work closely with clinical leaders, operational teams, finance, contractors, consultants and other specialists, with responsibility spanning business cases, procurement, construction and final handover.
You’ll also appoint and manage external expertise where required, including design teams, legal and financial advisors, cost consultants and construction specialists.

Take ownership of your capital portfolio
Lead and manage a site-specific programme of work, taking responsibility for:
- Delivering capital projects ranging from £5k to more than £50m.
- Planning and managing projects to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards.
- Managing capital budgets, forecasting, financial reporting and value for money.
- Developing business cases and options appraisals and taking them through Trust governance.
- Leading on health, safety and wellbeing across project delivery.
- Ensuring projects meet statutory, regulatory and Trust compliance requirements.
- Managing contractors, consultants and other external specialists.
- Monitoring project risk, performance and progress and reporting to senior management.
- Supporting backlog, Trust, charity and externally funded capital programmes.
- Ensuring completed projects are safely and compliantly handed over for clinical, staff, patient and public use.
- Contributing to strategic estate planning, sustainability and the development of the wider capital programme.
Lead the people behind delivery
Lead and manage the team responsible for delivering your assigned portfolio, setting priorities, allocating work and creating the conditions for people to perform at their best.
As a senior member of the Estates and Facilities team, you’ll also work across organisational boundaries, influencing stakeholders from project and finance teams through to clinical leadership and Trust executives. You’ll deputise for senior Capital Projects colleagues when required and bring your expertise to wider estates decisions.
What you’ll bring
If you have significant experience delivering complex capital projects within healthcare or a comparable environment and are ready to take ownership of a substantial portfolio, this role gives you the scope to do it.

You’ll need:
- A construction-related degree, equivalent qualification, or significant health and/or construction industry experience.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of management, leadership, financial management and strategic planning.
- A minimum of five years’ senior management experience within healthcare or a similar capital project delivery environment.
- Experience managing, planning and budgeting for multiple large and complex healthcare or healthcare-related construction projects.
- Strong people and team management skills.
- Strong financial analysis and management skills.
- The ability to deliver against agreed deadlines and budgets.
- The ability to provide expert specialist advice and make effective decisions.
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to operate effectively at senior level within a complex organisation.
It would also be an advantage, but isn’t essential, if you have:
- A management qualification.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution.
- A programme and/or project management qualification.
- A health and safety qualification.
- Knowledge of the NHS, its structure and objectives.
- Project and programme management skills.
