Opening Doors: Transforming Access to Radical Heritage at the Marx Memorial Library & Workers' School
The Marx Memorial Library & Workers' School is embarking on the first phase of a long-term masterplan to transform access to its nationally significant collections and historic site.
Improving physical, intellectual, and perceptual access through:
- The creation of a new visitor welcome and exhibition space
- Improvements to accessibility throughout the building
- Improved collections storage and access
- A new website and digital resources
- Refreshed interpretation and visitor facilities
- New opportunities for community participation and learning

The project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund alongside individual supporters and organizational fundraising.
Role: Capital Works Manager
Location: Marx Memorial Library & Workers' School
Contract Type: Fixed-term to May 2028
Hours: 3 days per week
Salary: £44,000 pro rata
Closing Date: 28 October
Responsibilities:
- Lead the coordination and day-to-day management of the project through its delivery phase to reopening in May 2028.
- Act as the Library's client representative, working closely with the Director, professional team, contractors, consultants, project partners, and Trustees to ensure successful delivery of the capital works.
- Maintain oversight of programme, risk, budget, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure effective communication between all parties involved in the project.
