Trinity House works for the benefit and safety of all mariners as a General Lighthouse Authority and maritime charity. Our people are central to our reputation as a leading maritime organisation, as is our commitment as an employer to developing the skills, capabilities and potential of our workforce.
This is a unique role within an equally unique organisation. Crews work on a 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotation and while maintaining coverage of our priority risk response areas, undertake a variety of operations, including the annual maintenance programme of our Aids to Navigation, local lights inspections and hydrographic surveys of channels and wrecks.
A key role is in providing an emergency service, ready at all times to respond to wrecks and new dangers, locating and marking the hazard in order to ensure the safety of other mariners. The role also involves providing support at offshore lighthouses by workboat and helicopter.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
