Join our Cardiac, Cardiology and Thoracic Pre-Assessment team
Play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals undergoing complex cardiac, cardiology and thoracic procedures. This exciting specialist nursing opportunity offers the chance to work at the forefront of elective and urgent patient pathways, supporting patients from the point of assessment through to surgery or intervention and helping to ensure they receive the safest and most effective care possible.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Undertaking comprehensive pre-assessment consultations
- Identifying and managing clinical risks
- Optimising patients prior to treatment
- Providing expert advice, education and support to patients and their families
- Helping patients understand their treatment journey and empowering them to make informed decisions about their care
The role requires a holistic approach, combining excellent clinical assessment skills with compassion, empathy and a commitment to delivering an outstanding patient experience.
This position offers a unique opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and expertise within highly specialised services while also contributing to service development, quality improvement projects, audit and research activities.

Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking specialist pre-assessment and optimisation of cardiac, cardiology and thoracic patients
- Delivering holistic, evidence-based care and support to patients and carers
- Coordinating patient pathways and advocating for patients throughout their treatment journey
- Maintaining effective communication across services and disciplines
- Sharing best practice and contributing to consistent, high standards of clinical care
- Supporting and developing junior staff through teaching, mentoring and supervision
- Completing cardiac and thoracic face-to-face pre-assessments and cardiology telephone assessments
- Managing and acting on Orthus (Virtual Ward) referrals
- Reviewing and completing Surgical Site Infection (SSI) surveillance
- Contributing to service redesign and pathway development
- Participating in policy development and implementation
- Promoting efficient use of clinical resources and equipment
- Contributing to maintaining a safe and effective clinical environment
