Consultant - Cardiology

The post is offered on a full-time basis; flexible working may be considered after discussion with the Clinical Director and depending on service needs.
About the Role
- Be part of the Consultant Cardiology team.
- Manage cardiology patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- Be part of the cardiology Consultant of the Week (“COW”) rota.
- The post is intended to support specialist echocardiography services. The ideal candidate will have an interest and be able to work independently in echocardiography, including stress echo.
- Participate in audit, clinical governance, annual job plan, and appraisal.
- Triage referrals from primary care, supporting an “advice first” (+/- test only) approach when clinically appropriate.
- Develop the Cardiology services and department. The post holder may therefore be expected to support the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager with business cases for various service developments.
- Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Conduct teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.
- Responsible for providing professional care & treatment of patients at all times.
- Participate in the cardiology Consultant of the Week rota.
- Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as “Duties of a Doctor”, “Good Medical Practice” & the “GMC Performance Procedures.”
