About the Role

The successful candidate will participate closely in all activities within the Directorate of Cardiothoracic surgery being directly accountable to the consultant staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Participation in the pre-, intra- and post-operative management of patients under consultant supervision with specific focus on robotic surgical program.
  • Active participation in the academic program is seen as an important opportunity for personal development.
  • Undertake audit and service evaluation projects.
  • Provide on-going daytime care of inpatients.
  • Initial assessment and management of acutely ill patients as well as in-patients transferred as emergencies or semi-urgently from local DGHs for specialised tertiary care.
  • Rotate through CICU gaining experience of the specialist provision of clinical care for patients in a high-dependency setting.
  • Weekly commitment to the outpatient service with appropriate support depending on the level of experience.

Core Function:

To support the consultant body in the comprehensive management of patients with diseases of the heart, lungs, and other chest organs. This role primarily involves day-to-day patient care on the wards, pre- and post-operative monitoring, and assisting in surgical procedures, all under appropriate supervision.
