Role Description

The Care Assistant role at Ashmere Derbyshire is a permanent on-site position based at Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing in Matlock. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Supporting residents with personal care, such as washing, dressing, and toileting
  • Assisting with mobility and mealtime needs
  • Helping maintain a clean, comfortable environment
  • Supporting social and recreational activities
  • Observing and reporting any changes in residents’ wellbeing to senior staff

The Care Assistant is expected to:

  • Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and infection control procedures
  • Promote dignity, respect, and choice for every resident

Qualifications

  • Ability to provide compassionate, person-centered care and support daily living tasks with empathy and respect
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues
  • Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow care plans, policies, and procedures accurately
  • Capability to work effectively in a team, respond calmly to changing situations, and use initiative when needed
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to maintain clear written records and follow instructions
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training (e.g., safeguarding, moving and handling, infection control)
  • A care-related qualification (such as NVQ in Health and Social Care) is beneficial but not always essential
  • Previous experience in a care or support role is an advantage, though applications from individuals with a genuine interest in care and a willingness to learn are welcome
