Role Description
The Care Assistant role at Ashmere Derbyshire is a permanent on-site position based at Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing in Matlock. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Supporting residents with personal care, such as washing, dressing, and toileting
- Assisting with mobility and mealtime needs
- Helping maintain a clean, comfortable environment
- Supporting social and recreational activities
- Observing and reporting any changes in residents’ wellbeing to senior staff

The Care Assistant is expected to:
- Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and infection control procedures
- Promote dignity, respect, and choice for every resident
Qualifications
- Ability to provide compassionate, person-centered care and support daily living tasks with empathy and respect
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues
- Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow care plans, policies, and procedures accurately
- Capability to work effectively in a team, respond calmly to changing situations, and use initiative when needed
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to maintain clear written records and follow instructions
- Willingness to undertake relevant training (e.g., safeguarding, moving and handling, infection control)
- A care-related qualification (such as NVQ in Health and Social Care) is beneficial but not always essential
- Previous experience in a care or support role is an advantage, though applications from individuals with a genuine interest in care and a willingness to learn are welcome
