AVICAN Support provides high-quality, person-centred care and support to help individuals remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes. We provide visiting care and live-in care, tailored to the individual needs, preferences, and circumstances of each person we support.

Our aim is to provide a genuine alternative to residential care by helping people maintain their independence, dignity, routines, and quality of life at home. We work closely with clients, their families, and other professionals to ensure that care is personalised, respectful, and responsive to changing needs.

Role Description – Care Assistant / Carer

The Care Assistant / Carer role involves providing high-quality care and support to individuals in their own homes, either through visiting care calls or live-in care arrangements.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Supporting individuals with personal care, medication in accordance with their care plan and training, nutrition and hydration, mobility, and daily living activities.
  • Providing companionship and emotional support.
  • Assisting with appropriate light household tasks to help maintain a safe, comfortable, and homely environment.

  • Follow individualised care plans and risk assessments.
  • Respect each person’s dignity, privacy, choices, and independence.
  • Recognise and report any changes in their health or wellbeing.

The role also involves:

  • Maintaining accurate care records.
  • Communicating effectively with families and colleagues.
  • Reporting any concerns, incidents, or safeguarding issues to the appropriate senior member of staff.

Carers must be able to work responsibly both independently and as part of a wider care team. Flexibility is required, as care may include a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and live-in placements, depending on the needs of the individuals we support.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to provide safe, respectful, and person-centred care in accordance with individual care plans, risk assessments, and company policies.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships with individuals, families, and colleagues.
  • Understanding of person-centred care, dignity, privacy, choice, and independence.
  • Experience or relevant training in health and social care, dementia care, or supporting older people and individuals with complex or long-term health needs is desirable.
  • Ability to support mobility and moving and handling safely in accordance with appropriate training and best practice.
  • Empathy, patience, reliability, and a genuine commitment to improving the quality of life of the people we support.
  • Ability to recognise changes in an individual’s health, behaviour, or wellbeing and report concerns appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely care records and follow confidentiality, safeguarding, medication, and infection prevention procedures.
  • Willingness to complete all required mandatory and role-specific training and maintain competency in relevant areas.
  • Care Certificate, NVQ/QCF/RQF in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualifications are desirable; willingness to work towards relevant qualifications is welcomed.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to the wider care team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work.
  • A valid driving licence and access to reliable transport may be advantageous for visiting care roles, depending on the location of the care package.
