ABOUT OUR HOME:
Lynwood Care Centre is a warm and welcoming purpose-built nursing home offering a spacious and comfortable environment and 24-hour care and support for older adults. Our home is divided into several smaller ‘houses,’ where our staff really get to know their residents, allowing for a more personalized approach to the care we provide.
JOB SUMMARY:
To maintain the care home's gardens and outdoor spaces to a high standard, creating a safe, attractive, and therapeutic environment for residents, visitors, and colleagues. The Gardener will ensure all landscaped areas are well-presented throughout the year while promoting the wellbeing of residents through pleasant outdoor surroundings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain gardens, lawns, flower beds, borders, hedges, and outdoor areas to a consistently high standard.
- Plant, water, prune, weed, mulch, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and seasonal planting to ensure healthy growth and an attractive appearance.
- Carry out routine lawn care, including mowing, edging, feeding, and aerating as required.
- Keep pathways, patios, driveways, seating areas, and other external spaces clean, tidy, safe, and free from hazards, including leaves, moss, and debris.
- Operate, clean, and maintain gardening tools, machinery, and equipment safely, reporting any faults or maintenance requirements.
- Monitor the health of plants and identify signs of pests, diseases, or weeds, taking appropriate action within agreed procedures.
- Carry out seasonal gardening and landscape maintenance, including planting, pruning, leaf clearance, winter preparation, and spring/summer displays.
- Dispose of green waste responsibly and maintain composting areas where applicable, ensuring environmentally responsible working practices.
- Support the creation of a welcoming, peaceful, and therapeutic outdoor environment that encourages residents to enjoy the gardens safely.
- Work collaboratively with the Home Manager, Maintenance Team, and other colleagues to ensure outdoor areas are maintained to the highest standards.
- Report any maintenance issues, hazards, damage, or repairs relating to external areas to the Home Manager or Maintenance Team promptly.
- Follow all Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, COSHH, Fire Safety, Safeguarding, and company policies and procedures at all times.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working practices when carrying out gardening duties.
- Maintain a courteous and professional approach when interacting with residents, relatives, visitors, and colleagues, respecting dignity, privacy, and independence.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role as requested by the Home Manager.
