I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

At Home Instead, we carefully match our Care Professionals with clients based on personality, interests, and compatibility. This allows meaningful relationships to develop and helps us provide exceptional care.
Hours are built through ongoing client matches. Once you are matched with clients, those visits are recurring each week, allowing you to develop a regular schedule and increase your hours over time as additional clients are introduced. You will be engaged on a zero-hours contract, meaning there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours, but you’ll be offered work as client matches become available, with the opportunity for your hours to grow steadily over time.
As a Care Professional, you will support older adults to remain independent in their own homes while providing companionship, encouragement, and practical assistance.
Duties may include:
- Providing companionship and meaningful social interaction
- Supporting clients with everyday household tasks
- Accompanying clients to appointments, social activities, or shopping trips
- Assisting with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene
- Promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing
No two days are the same, but every day offers the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life.
