Overview
To provide high quality, person-centred 1:1 care and support to clients of CDA Life in order to meet the objectives in clients’ support and care plans.
Person specification
- Experience of working with deaf people
- Experience of working with people who have a physical disability, learning difficulty/disability, health needs or dual sensory loss
- Knowledge of deaf culture
- High level of British Sign Language (at least BSL Level 2 or native)
- Ability to record reports of working with service users on a digital system
- Full driving licence (essential)
- Ability to follow care and support plans
- Ability to identify risks and follow appropriate procedures
- Professional image when dealing with other professionals and family members
- Ability to represent CDA at service user related meetings
- Willing and able to work evenings and weekends
Job Description
- Provide quality personal care and social inclusion support to service users of CDA in a diverse range of settings
- Travel to events in the local area that will provide a positive experience for the service user
- Build a good working relationship with the service user and their friends and families, as appropriate
- Follow care support plans and risk assessments, and support the development of these plans to include the service user’s wishes and feelings if requested
- Deliver specifically and appropriately personalised care to service users in a dignified and respectful way
- Support service users to complete everyday living tasks including the payment of bills, cooking, personal care, managing personal hygiene, managing correspondence and developing hobbies and interests
- Facilitate access to local communities, facilities, services, information and opportunities
- Assist service users to fulfil activities of daily living, e.g. working, leisure and education
- Respect service user confidentiality and discretion at all times
- Liaise with the management team regarding service users’ current and emerging support and care needs and achievements
- Adapt communication methods to meet the service user’s requirements and ensure they have access to information at all times
- Keep accurate records, including logging in and out of shifts and individual records, and carry out all the essential administrative tasks relevant to the post
- Raise concerns in a timely manner and liaise with the management team when necessary

Responsibilities
To provide a service of care to service users to enable them to lead as independent a lifestyle as possible. This will involve a programme of personal care and household management that is personalised for each service user in the form of a care plan, and will at all times observe and respect the service user’s dignity, privacy and independence as far as practical. Care duties include assisting with:
- Personal care – dressing and undressing; washing, bathing, showering, shaving, grooming and cleaning teeth; hair care; toileting and all aspects of personal hygiene; continence management; prevention and care of pressure sores (under appropriate nursing supervision); getting in and out of bed; use of aids to daily living and rehabilitation aids; rehabilitation exercises as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
- Healthcare – assisting the service user to take prescribed medication and attend medical appointments when needed.
- Dietary care – preparing snacks and meals according to the service user’s likes and dislikes; assisting with feeding as required.
- Domestic and household services – general cleaning, bed-making, clearing rubbish, laundry and ironing, fuel management, shopping and help with budgeting, light gardening (by prior agreement at the care plan stage), and maintaining care equipment to the highest standard.
- Personal services – assistance with personal finances including paying bills, personal planning (birthdays, anniversaries etc.) and democratic rights (voting cards etc.).

You will also be expected to:
- Conform to all CDA policies and procedures
- Take part in induction training and regular in-service training as directed by the Registered Manager
- Maintain accurate, concise and timely records of service user medication, care logs, concerns and mileage claims
- Attend staff, team and quality management review meetings
- Take part in reviews of service users’ care plans
- Work with team members to communicate service user needs and any changes that may occur
