Team: Elections and Local Land Charges
Job Family: Providing - CBG6 - 8
Salary: £26,403 to £33,851 per annum pro rata - This is a career-graded post and the starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Appointments to a trainee post will usually be at the bottom of the lower grade, with progression subject to satisfactory performance, and further advancement to the higher grade subject to demonstration of the required competencies and completion of the AEA Certificate.
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.
Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent
Closing Date: 11th September 2026
Interview Date: 21st & 22nd September 2026

About the Role

The Elections and Local Land Charges Team are responsible for producing and maintaining the Electoral Register and as part of that carrying out the annual canvass. We also carry out all national and local elections and referenda in the CBC area and are responsible for ensuring they are carried out effectively, efficiently and in line with procedures, statutory requirements and timescales. As part of our statutory duty, we promote and publicise engagement in the Electoral and Democratic process.

The role is based at our offices in Stotfold but travel to different locations across the Council’s area will be necessary. Additionally, at election times you will need to be able to work unsociable and extended hours and occasionally some weekends

  • Good oral and written communication skills and customer focus are essential.
  • This role will suit someone keen to learn a new profession.
  • You will be working to tight deadlines and must be able to remain organised and methodical.
  • The ability to work as part of a team is important but you should also be able to work on your own initiative.
  • You must be IT literate and have a desire to learn new systems.
  • The ability to be adaptable and flexible to meet the changing demands is important.

You will develop an understanding of electoral legislation and a specialist electoral services management system which you will use extensively. Be part of the team responsible for producing and maintaining the electoral register including supporting the annual canvass and managing elections and referenda for the area.

You will be expected to undertake the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) Foundation and Certificate (requirement to undertake assignments and an exam). As a member of the AEA you will be encouraged to attend regional and national meetings, conferences and training sessions to support your learning.
