About The Role
Sandwell Careers Service is seeking an experienced and qualified Level 6 Careers Adviser to join our dynamic and ambitious team.
This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality, impartial Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) to young people, with a particular focus on targeted groups, including those at risk of becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), care-experienced young people, young carers, NEET young people and those facing barriers to learning, employment and progression.
Working across a range of educational and community settings both within and outside Sandwell Borough, you will provide careers guidance and targeted support to help young people develop the confidence, skills and aspirations needed to make informed decisions about their futures and successfully progress into education, employment and training.
As part of Sandwell Careers Service, you will also support the delivery and development of our traded services offer, working closely with schools and opportunity providers to deliver high-quality careers programmes that meet statutory requirements and support positive outcomes for learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver professional, impartial and client-centred careers information, advice and guidance to young people aged 13–19, and up to age 25 for those with learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Provide targeted interventions for young people who are at risk of becoming NEET or who face barriers to participation and progression.
- Support young people with SEND to identify realistic and aspirational pathways into education, employment and training.
- Conduct one-to-one careers guidance interviews and facilitate group sessions, workshops and careers-related activities.
- Develop individual action plans and progression pathways to support successful transitions.
- Participate in Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews, transition planning meetings and multi-agency forums where appropriate.
- Build effective relationships with schools, colleges, parents/carers, employers, training providers and partner agencies.
- Contribute to the delivery of Sandwell Careers Service’s traded services, ensuring a high-quality, customer-focused service.
- Support schools and colleges to meet Gatsby Benchmarks and statutory careers guidance requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and case notes using management information systems and contribute to performance reporting and quality assurance activities.
- Track and monitor young people’s progression and destinations as required.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.
- Represent Sandwell Careers Service professionally at meetings, events and partnership activities.

About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced careers professional who is passionate about improving outcomes for young people and helping them achieve their potential.
Essential Requirements
- Level 6 Qualification in Career Guidance and Development (or equivalent recognised careers guidance qualification).
- Experience of delivering one-to-one careers guidance interviews and group careers education activities.
- Experience of working with targeted young people, including those with SEND and those at risk of becoming NEET and those young people who are NEET.
- Knowledge of careers guidance principles, progression pathways and the education, employment and training landscape.
- Understanding of SEND legislation, transition planning and the EHCP process.
- Knowledge of the Gatsby Benchmarks and Careers Guidance Statutory Framework.
- Experience of working collaboratively with schools, colleges and partner agencies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
- Good ICT skills and experience of maintaining accurate client records.
- Ability to work flexibly across locations both within and outside Sandwell Borough.

Desirable Requirements
- Membership of the Career Development Institute (CDI).
- Experience of delivering careers services within schools and colleges.
- Experience of working within a local authority or careers service environment.
- Experience of delivering traded or commissioned services to schools or opportunity providers.
- Knowledge of local and regional labour market information.
- Experience of destination tracking, quality assurance and performance monitoring.
