Careers & Employability Consultant (Access, Participation & Progression)
We are recruiting a qualified 0.7FTE Careers & Employability Consultant (Access, Participation & Progression) based in Chichester, with regular travel to the Bognor Regis campus.
Responsibilities
The postholder will provide professional and impartial careers information, advice, education and guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students and alumni, supporting them to make informed career decisions, develop their career readiness and progress successfully into employment or further study.
The postholder will have particular responsibility for supporting the University's Access and Participation Plan (APP) priorities relating to student progression and employability. Using institutional and sector evidence, they will identify barriers, participation gaps and differential outcomes affecting APP priority groups and develop, coordinate and evaluate appropriate careers and employability interventions in response.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant qualification at Level 6 or above in Careers Guidance or a related discipline.
- Good knowledge of the current graduate labour market and recruitment and selection processes.
- Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, and how students’ backgrounds and circumstances can influence access to opportunities, career development and graduate progression.
- Willingness to participate in appropriate training opportunities and nationally recognised networking initiatives, including those offered through the professional body GFI.

Desirable:
- Understanding of the Higher Education sector and the role of careers and employability within the student lifecycle.
- Teaching qualification or Advance HE Fellowship.
- Training or professional development in supporting students with disabilities.
Experience
Essential:
- Experience of providing professional careers information, advice and/or guidance for young adults and mature clients.
- Experience of designing, organising and delivering careers education, workshops, presentations or other development activities for groups, face-to-face and online.
- Experience of working with widening participation, Access and Participation, equality of opportunity or underrepresented student groups.
- Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to develop and deliver initiatives.
- Experience of supporting students through recruitment and selection processes.
Skills
Essential:
- Excellent careers guidance and interviewing skills, with a student-centred approach.
- Ability to design targeted interventions in response to identified student needs or barriers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, academics, Professional Services colleagues, employers and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret data and evidence and translate findings into practical careers and employability interventions.
- Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and use findings to improve provision.
- Excellent planning, organisational and time-management skills, including the ability to coordinate a programme of activity across an academic year.
- Strong digital capability and confidence in using relevant systems and technologies, such as Microsoft 365, Moodle, Panopto, Teams and careers platforms.
