The children, staff and Governors at Birkby Infant and Nursery School are seeking to appoint a highly skilled, reliable, enthusiastic and motivated Caretaker who can make a significant contribution to maintaining our caring, happy and ambitious school environment.

The Successful Applicant Will

  • Have previous experience in a caretaking, site management, maintenance or facilities role (preferably within a school or similar setting, but not essential).
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be flexible, hardworking and committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Have excellent timekeeping and organisational skills.
  • Have a good sense of humour and a positive attitude.
  • Be able to undertake a range of maintenance, repair and decorating tasks.
  • Have knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
  • Be willing to undertake relevant training, including safeguarding and health and safety qualifications.
  • Ensure the security of the school site, including opening and locking buildings as required.
  • Carry out regular health and safety checks, risk assessments and site inspections.
  • Oversee the cleanliness, maintenance and presentation of the school grounds and buildings.
  • Liaise with contractors and support the monitoring of maintenance work carried out on site.
  • Assist with the preparation of rooms and facilities for school events, meetings and activities.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergencies that may arise during the school day.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to health and safety, inspections and maintenance schedules.
  • Be competent in the use of IT systems and able to complete electronic records and reports where required.
  • Have experience of working in a busy environment and managing competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents and visitors.
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
