We are seeking a reliable and practical Caretaker to join a supportive secondary school in Gateshead. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Caretaker or facilities professional to play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-presented school environment.

The successful candidate will become part of the school's facilities team, supporting the day-to-day operation of the premises. This is a varied and practical position involving maintenance, security, health and safety checks, porterage, housekeeping, and responding to issues across the school site.

As a Caretaker, you will help ensure the premises and facilities remain operational and maintained to a high standard throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance and first-line repairs across the school site.
  • Undertake routine site inspections, safety checks, and fire safety duties.
  • Support the safe and secure opening and locking of school premises.
  • Monitor locks, alarms, CCTV, and other security systems and report faults where required.
  • Respond to repair requests and escalate work requiring specialist contractors.
  • Monitor plant, equipment, utilities, and general building condition.
  • Carry out porterage, including moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries.
  • Support housekeeping, waste management, cleaning requirements, and grounds maintenance.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and adverse weather, including ice, snow, or minor flooding.
  • Ensure safeguarding and health and safety procedures are followed at all times.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
