CARETAKER
Archdiocese of Glasgow - 15 hours per week
(although additional hours may be required in line with the needs of the organisation)
£10,491 per annum on contracted hours
The Archdiocese of Glasgow require a motivated and experienced individual to join our caretaking team.
The hours of work are Monday to Friday 4.15pm -7.15pm plus additional ad-hoc hours when required in line with the needs of the organisation (this may include evening/weekends). When required the successful applicant will also provide holiday cover for the day-time caretaker.
The Caretaker role
The caretaker takes responsibility for securing the building at the end of each shift, including setting the Alarm. The postholder is required to cover the reception, answer switchboard calls, take and pass on messages, and assist callers and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner. Customer service experience is desirable. Routine maintenance tasks consistent with the role are required. The role involves setting out chairs /tables, setting up audio-visual equipment for meetings and assisting the cleaning staff as requested.
Be the key holder for the property and take part in the call out rota.
Duties
- To ensure the security of the building in general, and to secure the building at the end of each shift, after checking the building is empty, shutting windows, switching off lights, locking internal / external doors and setting the alarm.
- Ensuring that all visitors coming into and leaving the building sign the Fire Register.
- To collect the mail from the mail room at 4.30pm. for uplift by the Post Office from the Reception and to empty waste bins and collect other materials (e.g. boxes / shredding) for disposal on a daily basis.
- To undertake routine maintenance tasks, consistent with job title, as and when required (e.g. changing light bulbs, setting out and/or putting away audio-visual equipment, chairs / tables for meetings or functions etc) and to assist the cleaning staff when requested.
- To ensure, in conjunction with the day-time caretaker, that the external courtyard and car park are kept tidy and litter free and that flowerbeds are well-maintained.
- To be a keyholder for the building and, as keyholder, to take part in the ‘call-out’ rota.
- To provide cover for the absence of the day-time caretaker, working split shifts and supervising cleaning staff.
- To observe confidentiality in relation to all matters relating to the Archdiocese of Glasgow Curial Offices, and the Archdiocese of Glasgow in general.
- To undertake ad-hoc duties, consistent with job title, when requested to do so (e.g. collecting / delivering items).

Employees where appropriate will be required to wear protective clothing and footwear.
When providing cover for the daytime Caretaker, it is expected that their usual duties are carried out accordingly.
It is expected that the successful applicant will accept any training to facilitate the undertaking of their duties. It is the responsibility of the archdiocese to ensure that employees have received the necessary training to enable them to undertake their duties in a safe manner.
The operating of equipment also covers inspection, routine maintenance and cleaning.
Reporting to the Vicar - General the successful applicant will be required to be able to work as part of a team.
Permanent 15 hours per week. Group personal pension scheme. Annual leave 20 – 25 days per annum, plus public and religious holidays prorated.
