Job Description
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable, conscientious, and self-motivated person who would like to provide a key role in maintaining our site, by ensuring a welcoming, safe, and secure environment for the school.
Prime Objectives of the Post
Under the direction/instruction of appropriate senior staff, assist in the provision of maintenance and security services on school premises and sites thereby ensuring a safe working environment.
May from time to time be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility defined in this job description.
Effort Demands
- Will work under the supervision and on occasion under own initiative, working to the priorities set by the Head-teacher, Business Manager, and SLT.
- Will carry out porterage duties as required including the removal and placement of furniture and equipment.
- Will take delivery and arrange for the storage of materials, stores, and other goods.
- Will support the caretaker in a variety of duties including opening and locking up, car parking duties at drop off and pick up times, registration of contractors on site, waste disposal and recycling.
- Will support general day-to-day maintenance routine tasks and develop other skills as training develops such as carpentry, basic plumbing and electrical work within their level for health and safety regulations, wall repairs, tiling, decorating, and garden maintenance.
- Use tools and equipment in compliance with health and safety regulations and legislation.

Responsibilities
- Will be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Will promote and ensure the health and safety of pupils, staff, and visitors (in accordance with appropriate health & safety legislation) at all times. (This responsibility is shared during normal school hours with the Head-teacher/Business Manager but is the postholder’s sole responsibility whilst on site outside of these hours in the absence of the Head-teacher or other senior member of the school staff).
- Will attend relevant meetings as required.
- Will eventually have shared responsibility with the Caretaker for the security of buildings, equipment, furniture, etc. on the site, the value of which varies from premise to premise.
- Will be responsible for the maintenance of the security of premises, including the locking and unlocking of the premises, and bringing any deficiencies to the attention of the Head-teacher/Business Manager.
- Will participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
- Will present a positive personal image, contributing to a welcoming school environment which supports equal opportunities for all, treating all users of the school with courtesy and consideration.
- Will contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
- Will appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
