About the Role
Are you an experienced Carpenter or Joiner looking to pass on your skills to the next generation? Or are you an established Carpentry & Joinery Lecturer or Assessor seeking a new opportunity in a high-quality training environment?
The Bicester Construction Skills Centre is designed specifically for apprentices, existing tradespeople, and employers. It offers a professional environment that feels much more like a workplace than a traditional college. Supported by modern workshops, industry-standard machinery, and state-of-the-art facilities, our Carpentry & Joinery provision delivers high-quality training to apprentices and adult learners, helping them develop the skills employers value most.
You'll be joining a small, enthusiastic, and highly committed team that genuinely understands the construction industry and is passionate about supporting learners to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical and theory-based training to Carpentry & Joinery apprentices both in the workshop and classroom environments.
- Carry out workplace assessments and reviews to support learners in achieving their apprenticeship standards.
- Deliver on-site training and assessment of full-cost Carpentry & Joinery provision.
- Support learners to develop essential workplace behaviours, including punctuality, teamwork, communication, and professionalism.
- Monitor learner progress, provide constructive feedback, and ensure timely achievement of qualifications.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with employers to support apprentices throughout their learning journey.
- Contribute to a positive, professional learning environment that reflects current industry practices and standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high-quality provision and learner outcomes.

Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Qualified to Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent industry-recognised qualification).
- Significant industry experience within the Carpentry and Joinery sector.
- Strong practical skills and up-to-date knowledge of industry techniques, materials, and regulations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Experience assessing apprentices in the workplace or a willingness to work towards an assessor qualification.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to employer premises.
- Enthusiasm for developing others and sharing professional expertise.
- A passion for inspiring and training the next generation of skilled carpenters and joiners.
Desirable:
- Assessor qualification (TAQA, A1, D32/D33 or equivalent).
- Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training or equivalent).
- Experience teaching or assessing in a post-16 education or apprenticeship environment.
- Knowledge of Apprenticeship Standards and End Point Assessment requirements.

Important Information
- Abingdon and Witney College reserve the right to close all applications before the posted closing date.
- Any successful candidates will be required to complete a structured training pathway, unless they already hold the relevant qualifications. This includes a two-week teacher induction (must be completed within probation), followed by the Award in Education and Training (AET) including Assessor is required, and then the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship. Completion of this structured learning programme is expected within 3 years. Furthermore, there is the option to pursue Qualified Teacher Learning Status (QTLS).
