Role Purpose
To provide day-to-day leadership and hands-on support within Casella's Production team, helping ensure safe, efficient, and consistent delivery of products to agreed quality and business requirements.
The role will typically spend around 60% of its time working directly alongside the Production team, combining practical production activity with supervision and coordination. The balance of the role provides technical and manufacturing support, working closely with and taking lead from the Manufacturing Support Engineer. The precise balance will vary in line with operational and business needs.
Functional Scope
- Hands-on production activity and day-to-day supervision of the Production team.
- Production priorities, workload coordination, and effective use of available resources.
- First-line technical guidance and practical problem solving within Production.
- Support for manufacturing engineering, product introduction, product change, and lifecycle activities.
- Quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement within the production environment.
- Coaching, development, and capability of the Production team.
- Cross-functional collaboration to maintain production flow and resolve operational issues.
- Ensuring continuity of services; production, assembly, stores, inspection during times of absence.
Key Accountabilities
1. Hands-on Production & Delivery
- Work as an active member of the Production team while helping coordinate day-to-day priorities, workload, and resources to meet customer and business requirements.
- Support effective production flow and timely delivery, maintaining appropriate standards of safety, quality, service, and efficiency and escalating significant constraints where required.

2. Team Supervision & Leadership
- Provide visible day-to-day leadership and supervision to the Production team, setting clear priorities, supporting performance, and maintaining appropriate accountability.
- Coach and support team members to build capability, flexibility, and effective ways of working, involving the Supply Chain & Production Manager where broader people-management action is required.
3. Technical & Manufacturing Support
- Provide first-line technical support within Production and liaise with the Manufacturing Support Engineer and Quality to investigate and resolve manufacturing, test, or product issues.
- Support appropriate production aspects of new product introduction, product changes, technical documentation, work instructions, non-conformances, and implementation of agreed improvements.
4. Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure activities within the role are carried out in accordance with Casella's Quality Management System, health and safety requirements, and agreed production standards.
- Identify and support practical improvements in production methods, quality, productivity, waste reduction, and team effectiveness, working with relevant specialists where required.
5. Cross-Functional Coordination & Support
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Stores, Engineering, Quality, Product Management, Customer Operations, and other relevant functions to support production priorities and successful implementation of change.
- Maintain clear communication on production status, technical issues, constraints, and improvement opportunities, ensuring material matters are raised with the appropriate owner in a timely manner.

Specific objectives and measures will be agreed through the business planning and performance-management process and may change in line with business priorities. They will typically cover:
- Production delivery, throughput, and effective day-to-day coordination.
- Product quality, rework, compliance, and adherence to agreed production standards.
- Timely identification, resolution, or escalation of technical and operational issues.
- Team capability, flexibility, engagement, and supervisory effectiveness.
- Safety, continuous improvement, and contribution to wider operational performance.

Other Requirements
- The role requires a hands-on presence within the production environment and flexibility to respond to changing production priorities.
- Occasional flexibility in working arrangements or additional hours may be required to meet business needs.
