Cash & Banking Finance Assistant

12 Month Fixed-Term Contract

£34,000–£36,000
Woking, Surrey – Hybrid Working

We're supporting a fast-growing, multi-site organisation that is looking to appoint an experienced Cash & Banking Finance Assistant on a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.

This is a busy, high-volume finance role with responsibility across bank reconciliations, cash posting, refunds and account reconciliations. The business processes significant volumes of transactions across a large number of sites and payment providers, so accuracy, organisation and the ability to investigate discrepancies are absolutely key.

The Role

Working within the Cash & Banking team, you'll be responsible for the daily posting and reconciliation of significant cash movements across the business. You'll work with information from multiple payment providers, process and reconcile transactions within Sage, investigate anything that doesn't look right and work with Credit Control, Management Accounts, Operations and individual sites to resolve discrepancies. There is a heavy Excel and reconciliation element to the position. Many of the current processes are manual, so you'll need to be comfortable working with large spreadsheets and high transaction volumes while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own key bank reconciliations, ensuring cash is accurately posted and reconciliations are completed to tight month-end deadlines
  • Process daily cash transactions across multiple payment providers, investigating and resolving unidentified or incorrectly allocated items
  • Prepare and post journals and transaction imports within Sage, including payment fees, VAT, payroll, pensions, direct debits and other cash movements
  • Prepare and reconcile weekly payment-provider reports, ensuring income, fees and associated postings are correctly recorded
  • Manage customer refunds, ensuring requests are accurately processed within agreed service levels
  • Prepare monthly cash account reconciliations across a large portfolio of sites, bringing together ledger balances, accruals and operational reports
  • Investigate reconciliation variances and work with Finance, Operations and individual sites to identify missing, incorrect or misallocated transactions
  • Maintain and clear suspense accounts, supporting the wider Cash & Banking team with additional reconciliations and finance activities where required

What We're Looking For

  • At least 3 years' experience within a finance environment, with strong exposure to bank and account reconciliations
  • Confident working with high transaction volumes and investigating complex reconciliation differences
  • Good understanding of double-entry accounting, journals, accruals, invoicing, AP and AR
  • Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, with confidence working across large spreadsheets
  • Previous experience with Sage or a similar finance system would be advantageous
  • Excellent attention to detail – accuracy is critical given the volume and value of transactions being processed
  • Highly organised and able to independently prioritise competing deadlines within a genuinely fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, inquisitive and comfortable taking ownership of discrepancies rather than simply escalating them
