Content Creator (Marketing)
Collingwood College
Salary: £13.45 plus holiday pay
Contract: Fixed-term for academic year 26/27 (until June 2027, reviewed termly)
Hours: Up to 5 hours per week (term time only) with potential for extra hours and occasional out of term time work
Start date: November 2026
Job Description
Job Summary and Purpose:
The role will involve producing engaging digital content for Collingwood College's social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Content will showcase College life, activities, achievements, opportunities, and the wider Collingwood community to a range of audiences.
The majority of content produced in this role will be outward-facing, focused on telling Collingwood's story and showcasing what is happening across the College to external audiences and stakeholders, including prospective students, alumni, and the wider University community. The Content Creator will also produce content aimed at engaging and informing current students where appropriate.
The content created will showcase College life to our wide and diverse audience (current students, prospective students, alumni, our networks, and supporters).
The postholder may be asked to attend certain activities or events to generate content. The postholder will be expected to consider the diversity of our online content, continuing work to ensure that the interests and activities of our diverse student body are represented.

Guidance and training will be provided by the College and colleagues from Durham University’s Marketing and Communications Team. The post holder will have access to a Canva Premium account to carry out the job.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create new and engaging content about the Collingwood community and share this through the social media channels
- Find engaging and innovative ways to share opportunities and events with current students, especially those that are less established
- Use initiative to find ways to showcase Collingwood life and the many success stories to be celebrated
- Be comfortable occasionally appearing in photos or short videos to present content in a personal and engaging way
Relationships and Contacts:
The post holder will be directly responsible to the Student Experience Officer. The content creator will be expected to liaise with different students and student groups throughout the college, and at times alumni and the wider Collingwood community.
Person Specification
Essential:
- An undergraduate or postgraduate of Collingwood College, enrolled on a degree programme for academic year 2026/27
- In-depth working knowledge of common social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.
- An interest in marketing and communications
- Ability to adapt communication style based on audience
- Ability to take great photos and do basic photo editing (this includes photography and editing on mobile phones)
- Basic graphic design skills and ability to create marketing materials (e.g., experience with Canva or other tools)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent English language and grammar
- Good organisation skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail
- Ability to take information and summarise or condense into something suitable for an online audience
- Friendly, professional manner
- A creative approach to problem solving and idea generation
- An understanding of the need for confidentiality at all times
- Reliable, with good time management skills and enthusiasm for the role
- Able to use own initiative and proactive in seeking out opportunities for content

Desirable:
- Experience of marketing activities, resources, and facilities to students
- Knowledge and experience of the Collingwood Community, including the JCR, MCR, and SCR
- Experience of running professional social media accounts
- Comfortable being on camera for photos or short video clips to present content in a more relatable and engaging way.
