About the role
The role provides cover when contracted staff are on leave and during temporary vacancies. Hours are offered according to service need so will be varied from week to week and site to site. We often need more cover during the summer and school holidays. Please note offers of hours can vary and are not guaranteed.
You will help deliver welcoming and effective library services, enabling customers of all ages and backgrounds to make the most of library facilities, resources, technology and partner services.
- Provide friendly, helpful and professional customer service.
- Assist customers to use library services, information, digital resources and technology.
- Complete day-to-day clerical and administrative tasks accurately.
- Work positively with colleagues, volunteers and partners.
- Help maintain service standards and the smooth operation of library sites.
Adapt to different locations, teams, priorities and working patterns
About you
Do you enjoy helping people, providing excellent customer service and working as part of a team? Gloucestershire Libraries are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and flexible people to join our pool of Casual Library Assistants.
You will also need
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain effective in a busy or pressurised environment.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility, reliability and willingness to learn new systems and services.
- Availability for a range of shifts, which may include evenings and weekends.

Choose one geographical group
In your application, you must clearly state which one of the following groups you wish to be considered for. You must be able to travel to library sites throughout your chosen group:
- Gloucester and Forest of Dean Includes Gloucester, Matson, Tuffley, Quedgeley, Hucclecote, Longlevens, Coleford, Cinderford, Lydney and Newent Libraries
- Stroud and North Cotswolds Includes Stroud, Stonehouse, Cirencester, Fairford, Dursley, Tetbury, Wotton and Nailsworth, Chipping Campden, Moreton, Stow and Bourton Libraries
- Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Includes Cheltenham, Churchdown, Up Hatherley, Hesters Way, Charlton Kings, Prestbury, Oakley, Bishops Cleeve, Tewkesbury and Winchcombe
Applications that do not identify one geographical group will not be considered.
