Are you looking for a flexible role that fits around your existing commitments while making a real difference to people's lives?
Kentish Road Respite is seeking compassionate, reliable and enthusiastic Casual / Sessional Support Workers to join our team supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
This is a casual role with no guaranteed hours and is particularly suited to people who:
- Have flexibility in when they can work.
- Are looking for additional hours alongside another job.
- Are studying and want work that can fit around their course commitments.
- Are returning to work and looking for flexible opportunities.
- Want to gain experience in social care while making a positive impact on people's lives.
As a casual member of staff, you can let us know your availability, and we will offer shifts based on the needs of the service and your availability.
About Kentish Road Respite
Kentish Road Respite is a CQC-registered service providing planned and emergency short breaks for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities, autism and complex support needs.
Our aim is to provide safe, person-centred and meaningful respite experiences that promote choice, independence, wellbeing and inclusion, whilst offering valuable breaks for families and carers.
Shift Patterns
To ensure applicants understand the nature of the role, please consider whether these shift patterns fit with your availability before applying.
Daytime Support Worker Shifts
Day shifts start from 7:30am and include a mixture of:
- Morning shifts
- Afternoon shifts
- Evening shifts
- Weekend shifts
- Bank Holiday shifts
- Split shifts, where you may work part of the day, have a break between shifts, and return later in the day to support the needs of the service.
Most daytime shifts finish by 8:30pm, although on occasion staff may be asked to remain on duty until 10:00pm to meet the needs of the people staying at the service.
Because this is a casual role, we are particularly interested in hearing from people who have flexibility in when they can work and are willing to work across a variety of shift patterns, including mornings, evenings, weekends and split shifts when required.

Waking Night Support Worker Shifts
Waking Night shifts are 8:00pm until 8:00am the following morning.
These are fully awake shifts where staff provide support throughout the night, carry out welfare checks, respond to people's needs and help ensure a safe and comfortable environment overnight.

The more flexibility you can offer, including availability for evenings, weekends, waking nights and occasional split shifts, the more opportunities there are likely to be for shifts within the service.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Casual Support Worker, you will:
- Support people with personal care, daily living skills and individual wellbeing.
- Promote choice, dignity, independence and inclusion.
- Support people to take part in meaningful activities both within the service and in the community.
- Follow care plans, communication plans and risk assessments.
- Support individuals with a wide range of communication styles and support needs.
- Work positively with families, carers and professionals.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to effective handovers.
- Be part of a team committed to providing safe, high-quality, person-centred support.

- Can communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
- Understand the importance of dignity, choice and inclusion.
- Are comfortable working flexibly, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
- Have experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism or complex needs, or can demonstrate transferable skills and values.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £26,402 - £28,207. The starting salary is £26,402 with annual progression through the salary bands.
