Casualty Claims Lead

Location: Manchester

Salary: £45,000 – £50,000

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time

Reporting To: Claims Director

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Casualty Claims professional to join a well-established and growing insurance brokerage in Manchester.

This is a senior position within the Claims function, offering the opportunity to take ownership of complex and high-value Casualty claims, provide technical guidance to colleagues and deliver exceptional outcomes for clients.

The successful candidate will have strong experience across commercial Casualty claims, with the technical expertise and confidence to manage complex matters, negotiate with insurers and other stakeholders, and act as a trusted advisor to clients.

The Role

As Casualty Claims Lead, you will take responsibility for complex and technically challenging Casualty claims, providing expert advice from initial notification through to resolution.

You will act as a senior escalation point for the Claims team while also supporting the development of technical capability across the wider function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the handling of high-value, complex and contentious Casualty claims.
  • Provide technical direction on policy coverage, liability and quantum.
  • Develop effective claims strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Manage litigation and legal processes where appropriate.
  • Act as the escalation point for technically challenging or disputed claims.
  • Provide proactive and strategic claims advice to key clients.
  • Attend client sites and support clients during significant or critical incidents.
  • Support client presentations, renewals and tenders with specialist Casualty claims expertise.
  • Lead negotiations with insurers, loss adjusters, solicitors and other professional advisers.
  • Drive early coverage agreement and efficient settlement strategies.
  • Use strong market relationships to achieve positive outcomes on difficult or sensitive claims.
  • Challenge insurer and supplier performance where necessary.
  • Analyse claims data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Produce meaningful claims MI and insight for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the Claims proposition.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues across the Claims function.
  • Share technical knowledge through case reviews, coaching and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Contribute to technical frameworks, standards and best practice.
  • Ensure claims are managed in line with agreed SLAs, KPIs and service standards.
  • Maintain compliance with FCA requirements and Consumer Duty principles.
  • Ensure accurate and timely use of claims systems, including Acturis.
  • Maintain effective control of costs, leakage and supplier performance.
  • Work closely with Broking, Risk and other teams to deliver an integrated client service.
  • Support client retention and wider business development opportunities.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Casualty Claims professional who is ready to take the next step in their career or move into a role with greater technical responsibility and client exposure.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience within commercial Casualty claims.
  • Experience handling complex, high-value or contentious claims.
  • Strong knowledge of policy coverage, liability and quantum.
  • Experience dealing with Employers' Liability and Public Liability claims.
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Experience working with insurers, loss adjusters and legal representatives.
  • Strong client-facing and relationship management skills.
  • The confidence to provide technical guidance and challenge where appropriate.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting colleagues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • A commercially focused approach with a strong emphasis on client outcomes.
  • Good understanding of claims governance and FCA requirements.
  • Experience using Acturis or a similar insurance system would be advantageous.
