Job description

The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.

In Yorkshire we look after over 3800 assets on the river network covering 2157Km, which better protects 320,000 properties.

We have an exciting opportunity and are looking for a Chartered Engineer to provide specialist advice and guidance in the Yorkshire Area. This role provides a great opportunity to work on a range of projects, as you help us to continue protecting people and property in flood risk areas. You will contribute to the asset management of Statutory Reservoirs, flood embankments, defence walls and other large civils structures. As an experienced engineer you will provide independent supervision for our critical assets and reservoirs, lead our teams on engineering issues and help to develop our Deputy Catchment Engineers.

You will work with the teams to technically assure our asset investment programme and advise on technical decisions for asset refurbishment. You will encourage, coach and mentor less experienced members of the department to help develop the next generation of engineers in Yorkshire.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
