About the role
At National Grid, we're at the heart of the energy transition. As we invest in critical infrastructure that will help deliver a cleaner, greener future, our procurement teams play a vital role in ensuring we secure the right partners, services and materials to make it happen.
We're looking for a Category Buyer to join our Procurement team and help support the delivery of major construction and infrastructure projects that are shaping the future of energy.
As a Category Buyer, you'll support the development and delivery of strategic sourcing activities across a range of procurement categories. Working alongside Category Managers and senior procurement professionals, you'll play a key role in planning and executing sourcing events, managing supplier relationships, and supporting contract development activities through to award.
This is a fantastic opportunity to build your procurement career within a complex and evolving environment, gaining exposure to large-scale projects that have a direct impact on the UK's energy infrastructure.
The role is hybrid with our office based in Warwick we'd expect to see you at least twice a week in the office and the rest from home.
What you'll do
- Support the delivery of strategic sourcing and category management activities.
- Assist with the planning and execution of major construction and infrastructure tenders.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the business and external suppliers.
- Support contract negotiations, development and amendments.
- Manage multiple procurement activities and project priorities simultaneously.
- Contribute to procurement strategies that deliver commercial value and business outcomes.

What you'll need
We're interested in hearing from procurement professionals who are passionate about delivering value and building strong stakeholder relationships.
- Experience in strategic sourcing and category management.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Experience supporting tender and sourcing activities through to contract award.
- Knowledge of contract development and commercial negotiations.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
Desirable, but not essential:
- Experience within the construction, utilities or infrastructure sectors.
- Exposure to large capital projects.
- HVDC or energy sector experience.
- CIPS qualification or progress towards one.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £40,000.00 - £44,000.00 per annum– dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
