Category Buyer – P&E Oil and Water Pumps & Valvetrain
Salary:
£49,519 per annum + dependent upon experience
Location:
Peterborough & Stafford

About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Additional Info
This position may require occasional domestic and international travel to suppliers and Caterpillar facilities to support business objectives and supplier engagement activities.
- Standard working hours apply, with flexibility required to support global suppliers and cross-functional teams across multiple time zones.
- Occasional participation in supplier visits, business reviews, negotiations, and cross-functional workshops may be required.
- Ability to work effectively in a global, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

What You Will Do
- Lead the development and execution of category and sourcing strategies that create value through improved quality, cost, delivery, and supplier performance.
- Partner with global suppliers and business stakeholders to identify opportunities, manage risk, and strengthen supply network resilience.
- Drive commercial discussions and contract negotiations to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and long-term partnerships.
- Use market intelligence, spend analysis, and supplier performance data to support strategic business decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Champion supplier relationship management activities, ensuring suppliers meet expectations for quality, delivery, innovation, and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product, manufacturing, and supply chain objectives while balancing operational and commercial priorities.
- Lead and support projects focused on cost reduction, supplier development, process improvement, and supply continuity.
What You Have
- Experience in Procurement, strategic sourcing, supplier management, or a related business function.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret supplier, operational, and financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities and support business decisions.
- Experience building and managing supplier relationships, including performance management, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and influence decisions at multiple levels.
- Experience supporting sourcing activities, contract management, commercial negotiations, and procurement processes within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

- Experience developing and executing category strategies and leading strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Demonstrated success delivering cost reduction, quality improvement, or supply continuity results through supplier collaboration and negotiation.
- Advanced proficiency with data analytics, procurement systems, and Microsoft Excel or similar analytical tools.
- Experience working in a global manufacturing environment and partnering with suppliers across multiple regions.
