What is Category Management at Wayfair?

Category Management is where business strategy meets customer experience. Each team owns a specific product category — from lighting and décor to kitchenware and bedding — and acts as the business owner for that area. We work closely with suppliers, analyse performance, expand our product selection, and shape how customers discover and interact with our products online.

As an Intern, you’ll dive right into this fast-paced, high-impact world — working with real data, solving real problems, and delivering results that matter.

What You’ll Do

Your exact role will depend on your skills, interests, and team placement, but here’s a snapshot of the kind of impact you could have:

  • Build Relationships: Partner with suppliers and cross-functional teams to keep your category competitive and growing.
  • Spot Opportunities: Research new vendors and track product trends to expand our range and boost sales.
  • Own Projects: Lead initiatives from pricing strategies to promotional campaigns.
  • Analyse & Optimise: Use data and web analytics tools to monitor category performance and identify improvements.
  • Strategise & Scale: Support the rollout of growth plans in partnership with merchandising, marketing, and operations.

What You’ll Need

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills — you thrive in team settings.
  • A proactive, can-do mindset — quick to learn, eager to take initiative.
  • An eye for detail and confidence working independently.
  • Interest in eCommerce, retail, or home & lifestyle products.
  • An interest in strategy and analytics, with a commercially minded approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable with Excel and good analytical skills

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
