Foundation Apprenticeships

Foundation apprenticeships are introductory courses that help young people get started in an industry. You do not need to have any specific qualifications or experience to apply.

Anyone between 16 and 21 can start a foundation apprenticeship. If you're between 22 and 24, you can start if you:

  • Have an EHC plan
  • Are in care or have been in care
  • Are in prison or have been in prison

Catering & Hospitality Apprentice

MC Apprenticeships are recruiting on behalf of The Station for an enthusiastic and motivated Catering & Hospitality Apprentice to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in the catering and hospitality industry while developing valuable workplace skills.

Wage

  • £12,480 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
  • National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices
  • Minimum wage rates

Training Course

  • Catering and hospitality foundation apprenticeship (level 2)

Hours

  • Tuesday day release at Middlesbrough College
  • Open Wednesday to Sunday
  • Typical shift pattern: 12.30 pm to 8.30 pm, however must be flexible to meet the needs of the business as weekend work will be expected.
  • 30 hours a week

Start Date

  • Thursday 15 October 2026

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What You'll Do at Work

  • Assisting with food preparation and presentation.
  • Providing excellent customer service to visitors and guests.
  • Serving food and beverages in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the workplace.
  • Supporting the team with daily catering and hospitality operations.
  • Learning and following food safety and health & safety procedures.
  • Assisting with stock rotation and basic stock control duties.
  • Working effectively as part of a team in a busy hospitality environment.

About The Station

The Station is a charming 19th Century Inn, situated just on the outskirts of the rural village of Picton in North Yorkshire. The Station pub was born in the railway age, and was built to serve the needs of railway customers, providing refreshment and somewhere to stay for weary travellers.

The Station pub takes its name from the old railway station on the Northallerton to Eaglescliffe line. The railway station was also a junction for trains on the Picton to Battersby line. The Station was closed to passengers in 1960 and to goods in 1964. The old platform can still be seen today.
