About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Catering Assistant to join the catering team at a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. This role involves supporting both the patient catering service and the on-site retail unit, helping to deliver a high-quality food service in a busy healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the preparation and service of meals to hospital wards
- Preparing meals for delivery according to patient orders
- Assisting with cooking hot food items
- Handling and preparing chilled and frozen food products
- Receiving and storing food deliveries
- Working within the retail unit, including cash and card transactions
- Disassembling meal trolleys from wards and completing washing-up duties
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and food safety
- Following HACCP, COSHH, and Food Safety Management System procedures
- Operating catering equipment safely and reporting any faults
- Carrying out cleaning duties and adhering to a "clean as you go" approach
- Ensuring food is presented attractively and served to a high standard
- Working closely with colleagues and ward staff to provide an excellent service

Requirements
- Previous experience working with food in a catering, hospitality, healthcare, or similar environment
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Experience handling hot, chilled, and frozen food products
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations
- Reliable and professional approach to work
- Ability to follow procedures and maintain high standards at all times
- Standard DBS check required
