Role Overview
As a Catering Assistant at The Café at The Hive, your job is to work efficiently within the team to deliver high-quality food and drink preparation, setup and service across all daily operations of the café. This also includes maintaining strict hygiene standards, keeping service areas fully stocked, providing prompt, friendly customer service, and delivering catering bookings across The Hive building.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve hot/cold food and drinks to daily café customers with friendly, efficient service.
- Accurately take orders and handle cash and card payments.
- Keep the café areas clean and tidy continuously to maintain a welcoming environment.
- Prepare menu items such as pastries, salads and toasties while following strict hygiene rules.
- Handwash cookware, operate the dishwasher and keep all surfaces clean and organised.
- Monitor food temperatures and expiration dates and ensure you adhere to allergen guidance.
- Prepare and deliver food, drinks and tableware for hospitality bookings across the building.
- Ensure meeting room refreshments and event orders are delivered punctually.
- Clear away hospitality setups, collect dirty tableware, and restore meeting spaces promptly after bookings conclude.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience with customer service, whether that be in a hospitality, retail or food service setting.
- Basic understanding of food hygiene standards, safe food handling and allergen awareness.
- Experience with Point-of-Sale operation, such as handling cash and card transactions as well as operating a basic till system.
- Experience preparing hot drinks and operating commercial coffee machinery.
- Confidence using basic kitchen equipment to prepare a basic menu of food.
- Excellent time management in order to prioritize tasks.
- Teamwork is key to a successful day in the café – it is important you can communicate effectively with the rest of the catering team to deliver high-quality service.
- Consistently punctual and demonstrate reliability throughout the execution of all daily café tasks.
- Being proactive during quiet periods is important, using the time to clean and restock without supervision.
- Demonstrate the ability to remain calm under pressure when there are sudden rushes.

Working arrangements

In this role, the successful candidate would be required to work between the Worcester office and your home address on a hybrid basis, Monday to Friday, 08:30-17:00.
