The Role
Your duties will include:
- Working within the kitchen and ward areas to provide an efficient, high-quality catering service to patients, staff, and visitors.
- Taking patients' food orders.
- Working alongside NHS staff.
- Serving food at ward level.
- Keeping all areas of the kitchen clean.
- Replenishing supplies.
- Using economic and safe use of cleaning agents, following manufacturers' recommended instructions.
- Using electrical equipment, i.e., Burlodge Regen Oven, Dishwasher, Tablet.
- Wearing protective clothing as supplied by the Department.
- Completing all daily/weekly sign-off sheets for areas of work including HACCP paperwork.
- Having a flexible approach to daily routine.
This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS). NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Permanent Contract
- Part-time Position: 5.76 hours per week
- Location: Based in Vale of Leven Hospital
- Shift Pattern:
- Saturday: 16.15pm-19.15pm
- Sunday: 16.15pm-19.01pm
Responsibilities
- Supporting the delivery of catering services to patients, staff, visitors, and for functions within the hospital.
- Regeneration of patients' meals, either centrally or at ward level.
- Plating patient meals at the point of service as advised by nursing staff.
- Cleaning and wash-up of all equipment, machinery, and crockery associated with catering services.
- Assisting food production staff with the basic preparation of meals.
- Undertaking picking & packing of patient meal components.
- Supporting the overall delivery of patient meals to ward level.
- Complying with Food Hygiene Regulations with regard to food service.
- Complying with HACCP system in relation to equipment cleaning and departmental cleanliness.
- Maintaining high personal hygiene standards.
- Complying with Health and Safety regulations and adhering to manual handling/risk assessment/fire safety training.
- Reporting faulty equipment.
- Operating cash register at point of service and cash handling.
- Setting up, clearing, and cleaning of the staff dining room for service.
- Record keeping associated with catering services, e.g., HACCP and temperature control, receipt, and storage of supplies.
- Storing goods correctly and using stock on a rotational basis.
- Cleaning and replenishment of vending machines.
- Complying with all statutory and sector procedures.
- Providing guidance to new members of staff relating to work practices.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
